Justin and Matt

Tryout for two characters from a new graphic novel. Watch this space.

If Bart Simpson had been drawn by Ronald Searle

Two names you don't often find in the same sentence. This is just a warm-up. I know a lot of artists do "what if X were drawn by Y" exercises, but I seem to be on this Searle kick at the moment and I need to exorcise it. All due respect to the master.

Cat answers phone

Another one for the new website, this time for the contacts page. If we ever get the cat off the phone, you may try to contact us.

Chez Team Sputnik

Another illustration for the new website. (All together now) "Our house is a very, very, very nice house..."

New Team Sputnik website

A couple of images for the new Team Sputnik website (still under construction).

Team Sputnik play Wii

OK, I finally gave in and we bought a Wii. I've no idea why - at this stage of my life, peer pressure should be something that only ever happens to other people. The young person holding the red controller is niece Giulia, currently studying animation in the UK, although she seems animated enough already.

They Draw and Cook 2

Here's the second tryout/submission for the They Draw and Cook website. This recipe came from Peiran. I'm here to tell you you won't find it in any Chinese restaurant anywhere in the UK, and it's absolutely delicious. Try it you should.

They Draw and Cook submission

As an experiment, to see if cartoon recipes would work in my style, I tried producing a couple for the They Draw and Cook website. This is the first of two. Since this recipe came to us from our friend Clementina Carosi (and is a traditional dish from her part of Italy, Amatricia) I took the liberty of re-using a cartoon I previously drew of Clemy for her home cooking website.

Cookery blog

So anyway, Antonella, myself and our friend Peiran were having a meal one day and decided to start a cookery blog, as you do. So I've been spending some of my spare time writing down traditional Chinese and Italian recipes courtesy of the ladies and turning them into step-by-step recipe cartoons. All recipes published in the blog have been tasted by me. I love my life.

Dr. Peiran Shi, Phd.

Our friend Peiran just got her Phd! Yay!!

The artist at work

Antonella and myself in our studio, busy working on our latest project. The cat really does answer the phone.

Passer-by

This dude passed below my office window this morning. Our neighbourhood is going downhill fast.

Antonella Graduated!

After a year's delay due to circumstances beyond her control, Antonella has graduated fro Lancaster University with an MA in Historical research - with distinction, I'll have you know. I'm tremendously proud of her. She's got the diploma framed and hanging on the wall next to her desk, and hanging right next to it is this drawing I did of her in her cap and gown.

She's wearing spotty pink wellies because she spent ages shopping for formal shoes to wear during the ceremony, and then ended up wearing an old pair because they were more comfortable. Just my little joke.

Walt Disney Death Telegram

The telegram sent to Disney offices worldwide announcing the death of Walt Disney just went on sale on Ebay.

Well, I'd buy it.

Little Red Politically Correct Riding Hood

So here's the thing. A couple of years ago I was trying to get some sleep after pulling several all-night sessions trying to meet a deadline. A friend phoned with a problem - he suddenly had a couple of blank pages in his comic, nothing to fill it with, and a print deadline looming. He had an old script he'd dug up, could I draw something quickly? So I did this. Then I went back to sleep.

Funny what you can come up with when you're essentially sleepwalking.

Script is by Clive Ward, by the way.

Der Kleine Baron 6

Part six of my Little Baron experiment. The rocket isn't exactly the same as Tin Tin's because I don't want to get sued.

Der Kleine Baron 5

Part five of my Little Baron sequence, introducing our Baron's sweetheart, the aviatrix Amelia Airheart (note spelling). Still no idea where this is going.

touring italy by car

A slight re-working of a pre-existing illustration to create a dummy tour guide for Clementina Carosi's website. The Weltron Euroguides series never existed, but if it had, I'd have been sure to buy the complete series just to check out all the great illustrations by Nicholas Miller. Bless you, Les Editions Weltron, for all the work you gave this talented young illustrator!
